Today, Cognizant opened the 2013 application period for Making the Future After-School and Summer Program grants. Making the Future seeks to inspire young learners to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math disciplines by creating fun, hands-on learning opportunities.

Developed in partnership with the Maker Education Initiative, the program provides grants to community organizations to run hands-on, Maker-movement inspired programs in an after-school or summer camp setting, or within the school day when conditions allow. Cognizant believes that Making activities not only engage and excite kids but can spark interest in STEM and the arts, as well as develop their creative capabilities.

In 2012, Cognizant funded 10 Making The Future programs, run at locations across the US, including Children’s Aid Society (NY, NY), Newark Museum, PS107 (Bronx) DreamYard Project (Bronx), Detroit Public Library, Mt. Elliott Makerspace (Detroit), South End Technology Center (Boston) , Creation Station (Middletown, RI) and Utah State 4H. For 2013, Cognizant has committed to doubling the number of programs by offering 20 program grants.

Community organizations wishing to apply for a 2013 grant should submit the grant request questionnaire by December 15th, 2012. The Grant Application Guidelines can be found here. Completed grant questionnaires, as well as inquiries, may be sent to makingthefuture@cognizant.com . Cognizant and the Maker Education Initiative will work together to evaluate all grant requests and inform applicants by January 15th.

When you click on the “guidelines for the grant application” it will download them to your computer. Please email us at info@MakerEd.org if this does not work.
