Join us for this hands-on, minds-on virtual workshop where we’ll explore how culturally responsive math teaching and maker education can be integrated to support the histories and identities of math learners. We will engage in a sample math lesson that makes visible how we can rehumanize math classrooms to be more learner driven and hands-on. We will also have time to reflect, discuss, and reimagine how our own teaching practices can incorporate a Culturally & Historically Responsive Literacy framework.
Our approach: Our workshops aim to immerse educators in the experience of learners. No lecturing here — you can expect to be engaged in hands-on, minds-on activities and interactive discussions for the full duration of the workshop. We’ll support you as you reflect on your practice as an educator, learn and collaborate with other participants, and stretch your teaching in new directions.

Pre-session work: We will be connecting our reflections in this workshop to Cultivating Genius: An Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy by Dr. Gholdy Muhammad. You don’t need to read the whole book to attend! Here’s a little pre-work to help jumpstart the important thinking we’ll be doing. There’s an article OR a podcast for you to listen to (you don’t need to do both!) Engage with the pre-work in whatever way feels right for you and your learning.
