Progressive Arts Alliance (PAA) is pleased to host two Maker Corps Members this summer in Cleveland, Ohio. PAA is an arts education organization that travels to schools, community centers, libraries, and other spaces throughout our region.  Our programming unites the arts, technology, creativity, and STEM learning.

PAA is excited to integrate our Maker Corps Members into our mission of inspiring students to reach their full potential through outreach programs that provide unique and relevant learning experiences using contemporary arts and 21st century media.  PAA’s Maker Corps Members will learn from PAA’s experienced professional teaching artists about the craft of engaging students in a variety of hands-on learning environments.

PAA’s Maker Corps Members will also develop and teach a series of week-long camps that will allow students to create kinetic sculptures as they explore kinetic and potential energy.  Through the fabrication of individual and group sculpture projects, students will understand how energy can be transferred from potential to kinetic and between objects.  Maker Corps Members will also allow students to explore the concept of collage as they build and experiment with materials.  Camps will take place in libraries and community centers throughout Northeast Ohio and will serve students age 11-18.

PAA Maker Corps Members will also bring making and tinkering to members of our community through hosting hands-on activities for families at three large-scale community festivals. Maker Corps Members will present a design challenge to families and encourage youth and their parents to experiment with materials provided from the Possibility Box.

Maker Ed is excited to welcome Progressive Arts Alliance as a new Maker Corps Host Site for 2014.  Applications for all Maker Corps Members will open Monday, February 3, and close on March 21.  Click here for more information, and to apply. – Nancy
