Grass Valley

Maker VISTA members Ignacia Ojeda and Dylan Campbell kicked off the new school year at Grass Valley Elementary in Oakland, CA by organizing a making event during back to school night. Hosted in the school’s makerspace, The Wonder Workshop, the event served to welcome students into the space and included an after-school slime making session – which, due to an overwhelming level of interest from students, actually turned into a series of three sessions, wherein over 70 students participated! The Maker VISTA team spent a significant amount of time working on the logistics of this first event, such as finding ways to accommodate as many students as possible and figuring out how to best reach out to the community. Both Ignacia and Dylan look forward to incorporating social media campaigns and updates into future event planning, in order to keep parents, teachers and the rest of the community current with Wonder Workshop happening and ways they can be involved. Up next, the team will be developing a schedule to facilitate student-led projects and ideas.
