Millvale Community Library (MCL) is excited to be a Maker Corps Host Site for Summer, 2014, and will be welcoming two Maker Corps Members to our family! Millvale Community Library is a small, community-oriented library located just north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Since opening our doors to the public in August, 2013, the MCL has become a hub of activity for the underserved community of Millvale. Through our many programs and services, children and adults are afforded the opportunity to learn, grow, commune, and create.
In addition to more traditional library services, MCL currently runs Maker Thursdays, a weekly maker space supported through the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Maker Thursday participants explore electronics and circuitry, fiber arts, and carpentry through STEM-based activities and projects.
As a Maker Corps Host Site, the MCL looks to expand its current maker program to include a more vivacious maker space, a tool lending library, and to foster relationships between makers of all ages by developing a partnership with the Open Floor Maker Space, a neighboring collective of skilled craftsmen in various disciplines. Our Maker Corps members would be directly involved in all of these initiatives.
Maker Ed is very excited to welcome Millvale Community Library as a new Maker Corps Host Site for 2014. Applications for all Maker Corps Members will open Monday, February 3, and close on March 21. Click here for more information, and to apply. – Nancy
