Maker Ed is thrilled to be hosting the 2nd annual Maker Educator Convening on Tuesday, May 17 – Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at The Crucible in Oakland, CA.
The two-day national event is a unique opportunity for formal and informal educators from across the country to connect and to deepen the collective impact of maker education! Join us Tuesday, May 17th from 5:30pm to 9:30pm for a screening of the film, Most Likely to Succeed, followed by a full day of breakout sessions, demos, and panel discussions on Wednesday, May 18th from 9:00am to 5:30pm.

Event Details
Location: The Crucible, an industrial arts space located at 1260 7th Street in Oakland, CA.
Theme: Forging Connections: Deepening the Collective Impact of Maker Education.
Day 1, Tuesday, May 17th, 5:30pm-9:30pm: happy hour, screening & discussion of the film, Most Likely to Succeed. Optional pre-Convening Crucible workshop from 12pm-2:30pm (more details below).
Day 2, Wednesday, May 18th, 9:00am-5:30pm: keynote, panel discussions, demo sessions, hands-on making activities, and networking time.

Convening Goals:
- connecting formal and informal educators from across the country
- understanding and strengthening the impact of maker education
- providing opportunities for collaboration and hands-on making
- mapping the maker education community
- demonstrating best practices for facilitating maker projects
Meals: Appetizers and drinks will be served on Day 1 of the Convening. Breakfast, lunch, snacks will be included on Day 2.

CEU credit: One-and-a-half (1.5) units of Continuing Education (CEUs) credit is available for an additional $70 fee (to be paid for at the Convening).

Registration Fee*: $250, includes entrance to both days, meals, and maker fun.
*Some need-based financial assistance is available to cover registration fees. To apply, please send a brief statement outlining why you or your institution would benefit from this assistance to events@makered.org.
Maker Faire Bay Area Tickets: Register early and receive a free one-day ticket to the Bay Area Maker Faire for Saturday, May 21st or Sunday, May 22nd — tickets available on a first come, first served basis while supplies last.
Pre-Convening Workshop, Tuesday, May 17th, 12:00pm – 2:00pm (additional fee): Register for an optional workshop with the Crucible for an additional fee. When checking out in Eventbrite, indicate your choice of glass fusing or MIG welding workshop. Spaces in the pre-Convening workshops are limited.
Travel Details
Hotel: We recommend Convening attendees look into the following hotels as they are conveniently located, and near public transportation:
Transportation:
- Public Transportation (highly recommended): The Crucible is located just one block from the West Oakland BART station.
- Other Options: The Crucible’s staff highly discourages walking to The Crucible from nearby hotels. Parking near the space is limited, and car break-ins do occur in the neighborhood, so please make an effort to take public transportation. Their staff also notes that a Lyft or Uber from downtown Oakland typically runs around $5.00.
Dress Code: The Crucible is an industrial art space, so be prepared for a bit of dirt and dust, and come wearing closed-toed shoes. We also recommend you bring layers, as the temperature in the space tends to change.
