Whether they’ve attended one of our professional development workshops or participated in one of our programs, educators frequently tell us that our organization was the inspiring catalyst that enabled them to infuse making into their learning communities. They’ve told us that our support has enabled them to make a profound impact on the lives of their students.
We’ve heard stories of youth building interest in learning –– like one boy who, before attending a summer camp at one of our Maker Corps Host Sites, was reluctant to engage in academics, but left feeling invested in their own learning in a totally new way.
We’ve heard stories of young people recognizing problems in the world –– like a lack of guitars that are both affordable and customizable or not being able to explore and map inaccessible parts of caves — and with the support of Maker Ed-trained Young Maker mentors, inventing something to help solve those problems.
We’ve heard stories of youth who’ve become more engaged in school –– like students who used to regularly ditch their high school classes to hang out at a nearby grocery store, but now spend their time making at their schools’ library makerspace.
Stories like these inspire us and demonstrate the profound impact that the work we do makes on the lives of youth in the Bay Area and across the nation. But, without the support of our donors, none of this work would have been possible.
On Tuesday, May 5, 2015, Maker Ed will be taking part in Silicon Valley Gives, a 24-hour online fundraising effort hosted by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. We need your help to enable us to continue providing educators with the resources that they need to facilitate these kinds of transformative making experiences for youth nationwide.
Consider pledging a donation for this campaign today, and support work that makes a profound impact on the lives of youth across the nation.
