Wilson County Public Libraries and Maker Corps 2015
Wilson County Public Libraries is excited to be a 2015 Maker Corps Host Site at the Stockdale branch library, The Sarah Bain Chandler Library in Stockdale, TX. Hosting two Maker Corps Members to assist with summer programming, Wilson County Public Libraries has already invested in Lego WeDo kits for robotics and a 3D printer and filament. This is their first venture with the Maker Corps program, and it surely won’t be their last! They look forward to drawing participants from the entire county to come to Stockdale for this summer event and hope to have at least 75 participants and quite possibly more.
They are seeking Maker Corps Members who are enthusiastic, flexible, and love kids. Interested applicants should have a passion for learning, for making — for hands-on learning! — as well as some technology experience. Experience working with children and youth will be a big plus. They hope to have Maker Corps Members working together as part of a team to best serve and enhance the experiences the participants will have.
In being a Maker Corps Host Site, Wilson County Public Libraries is aiming to bring a greater awareness to the county of who makers are, to introduce them to the idea and practices, and get people inspired and involved! In the spring of 2016, the main branch of Wilson County Public Libraries, The Sam Fore, Jr. Public Library, will move into a new building and have a dedicated makerspace. The first Mini Maker Faire in Wilson County will also take place in May of this year. It’s undeniable that being a Maker Corps Host Site, coupled with hosting the Mini Maker Faire, will spearhead the Maker Movement in Wilson County.
